8. Jasmine or Dwarf Gardenia

Scientific Name: Gardenia jasminoides

  • Plant Zone: 7-8
  • Sun Exposure: Full sun to partial shade 

Jasmine is an intoxicatingly fragrant plant with flowers that show in early spring and last to late summer. This low-growing plant makes a perfect choice for hedges, hillsides, or as a ground cover plant. The blooms are usually white, but there are also other Jasmine varieties that come in different colors. Jasmine is drought and heat tolerant, however, it doesn’t like cold temperatures.

These gorgeous flowers are part of the coffee family which means Jasmine flowers, like other coffee plants, produce golden fruit that attracts birds once it gets matured.
