After a summer filled with flip-flops and sand, this is an excellent time to clean your carpets before the fall and winter seasons, when your family might try to be more mindful of leaving their shoes by the door.

You can hire a local professional to clean your rooms or rent a Rug Doctor from Home Depot for about $30 or so daily.

Home maintenance checklist for August:
-Oil all the door hinges, including those on your garage door.
-Replace the washers in any interior and exterior faucets if required.
-Remove the built-up lint from your dryer vents.
-Now’s the time to make sure your fireplace is in working order.
-Clean the refrigerator and freezer coils. And don’t forget to clean and empty your drip trays.
