6. Platycerium

If you want to grow an unusual plant on the side of your wall, Platycerium is a great choice. Also known as a “Staghorn Fern,” this greenery gets its name for its distinctly shaped leaves that look like animal horns.

Native to the rainforests of Java, southeastern Australia, and New Guinea, this unusual plant does best with year-round temperatures above 40 degrees F. A mature Platycerium can grow as big as 3 feet across. Initially succulent and dull green, Staghorn Fern plants become papery tan to cinnamon-brown with age.

These tropical plants need bright indirect light, moderate humidity, good air circulation, consistent moisture, and warm temperatures. An important thing to note is that they absorb water not only through their roots but also through their fonds, so make sure to soak the basal and medium ones.
