Do you want to have a jaw-dropping entrance? Then these are the front door plants you need!

While everyone’s opinion can change over time, one thing’s for sure: good first impressions, in all areas of your life, truly matter. And the same rule applies to your home: whether you prepare it for a sale or you welcome first-time guests, you can make a good impression.

While a beautiful front garden and a polished mailbox can make a huge difference, don’t forget that your front door can also be the star of the show. A gorgeous paint color, a pretty doorbell, and a beautiful front door plant are going to make everyone say wow. These tiny details add personality, warmth, a pop of color, and some lovely details.

If you want to impress everyone and make yourself feel better each time you come home, these are the front door plants you need to have! Whether you prefer a structured hedge or some bursting flower boxes, we’ve got you covered! Let’s get inspired!

1. Thuja

The first front door plant we’ll talk about is the gorgeous thuja, which is popular for its stately appearance and the privacy it offers when you plant it in a row. If you have noisy neighbors and a fence is not enough, this plant will do the trick.

A simple thuja pair will frame your entrance and give it a column-like architecture, perfect if you want a simple yet elevated look. With a little TLC, it will look lush and pretty all year.

2. Dwarf gardenias

Can you think of something prettier than some white dwarf gardenias? This gorgeous plant is perfect for tiny spaces, and it will make the biggest difference. Whether you plant it in a low container or as a border down either side of your front door, you’ll be hypnotized by its vibrant blooms and rich scent. Since this front door plant can tend to grow quite slowly, you might consider buying a mature one instead of starting from seed.

3. Climbing star jasmine

If you’re looking for a front door plant that will fill all the unused or negative space, a fast-growing climbing vine or bush is exactly what you need. Besides its charming, cottage-core appearance, star jasmine will delight you and your guests with its sweet-smelling, small blossoms. It only flowers in the spring, but the gorgeous green leaves are vibrant throughout the winter, so your home entrance will look amazing all year.

4. Hawaiian dwarf umbrella trees

This umbrella tree has an abundance of room to stretch out, so it’s an excellent choice for a larger porch or landing. This tree is easy to maintain and doesn’t require any fussy care; it likes light, and if you water it constantly, it will make your home entrance look divine. Speaking of watering, experts suggest doing so twice a month or every other week for the best results.

5. Potted star jasmine

For those who are concerned about flowers and climbing vines taking over their front porch, a potted jasmine plant is a fantastic solution because it’s simple, structured, and looks stunning.

This front door plant will make your entrance look elegant and dreamy. It requires occasional trimming, but other than that, it only needs little care, so it’s perfect for those who don’t know how to take care of plants.

6. Faux mini Japanese maple tree

If you love Japanese trees but don’t exactly have a green thumb, don’t worry, because I know exactly what front door plant you need to turn your entrance into a fabulous green oasis. A faux mini Japanese maple tree looks amazing, doesn’t require much maintenance, and offers the right amount of greenery for your space.

As long as you don’t mind that it’s faux and not real, it will look fabulous all year. Just make sure to dust it every now and then, and you’ll have the prettiest entrance.

7. Bamboo palms

We continue with these beautiful front door plants, and this time we’ll talk about bamboo because you can’t go wrong with it. Bamboo is believed to symbolize abundance and good luck, and I can’t think of a better plant to bring good fortune into your life and home.

Traditional bamboo plans are lower in stature and notoriously invasive, but if you choose a potted one, you’re more likely not to have these problems. Do you have any other front door plant ideas? Let me know in the comments below, because I would love some suggestions.

8. Wintergreen boxwoods

Boxwood topiaries are a classic way to keep it simple yet stylish. They can be tall and narrow, bushy and short, or pruned into beautiful forms (you’ll see spirals cut into them a lot!) and they’ll always look good. If you want to impress someone or give yourself a happiness boost each time you come home, you should choose some wintergreen boxwoods.

And their beauty isn’t the only thing you’ll love. According to professional gardens, they thrive in cold climates and require little upkeep, which is perfect for busy people or for those who don’t have a green thumb.

…The next front door plant will give your home a vacation vibe, so check it out!

9. Bird-of-paradise plants

If you’re looking for a pop of color, a bird-of-paradise plant will do the trick. This gorgeous front door plant will give your home a tropical vibe, and if the weather’s gloomy, this will make it feel like sunshine.

What’s great about this plant is that it grows both in sun and shade, but if you get an orange plant, you should put it in direct sunlight to make the color pop. Other than that, if you live in a place where winters are cold, bring your bird of paradise inside.

10. Outside pride petunias

If you were blessed with plenty of sun at your front door, outside pride petunias are a fabulous option for you. You can put them in pots around your home entrance, let them trail down from a hanging planter, or line them at your steps, and they’ll put a smile on everyone’s face once they come to visit you. They don’t need a lot of attention, but make sure you water and deadhead them regularly, so they can thrive and look their best.

11. Meyer lemon trees

Lemon trees hold a special charm for me. I once read about a celebrity who enjoys fresh lemon water from lemons grown on her own tree in a home decor magazine. It’s a simple joy that adds a touch of freshness and beauty to any space, and I knew I wanted it too.

It wasn’t something that crazy, but it was special for me. I was in my late twenties, and I didn’t have my place, but I promised myself that when I would finally own a home, I would grow my lemon tree. And I did.

If you want something like this too, here’s the thing: you don’t need a gigantic backyard to grow a special tree like this or even an orange tree. As long as you have a sunny spot that’s sheltered from the wind, you’re good to go. You can even grow your tree inside. If you want it to thrive all year, make sure you bring it indoors in the colder months, water it, and follow the recommendations, and you’ll soon have your juicy, natural, and pretty lemons.
