Landscaping Mistake: Going too big

It’s OKAY to be subtle! Pros say you shouldn’t be seduced by flashy plants you see at the nursery or on the internet. Landscaping designers see a lot of gardens populated with unsuitable plants. Be it they are poisonous, invasive, or simply out of context.

Feather grass and fire sticks may be stunning, for instance, but they don’t belong in your garden. According to experts, feather grass is invasive, and the sap from the aptly-named fire stick CAN actually burn you.

Landscaping Mistake: Not working WITH the sun

Sadly, there’s nothing we can do about the sun. But you can work around it. Try planting a bunch of drought-tolerant plants, like succulents and cacti. Group sun-hearty plants together and plant some tall vegetation to provide a bit of shade.
