10 Perennials That Will Steal The Show in Your Neighborhood

9. Kalanchoes

Scientific Name: Kalanchoes

  • Plant Type: Perennial
  • Plant Size: up to 11-13 inches
  • Geographic Origin: China, Southern, Eastern Africa, Southeastern Asia, Madagascar
  • Plant Zone: 10-11
  • Sun Exposure: Bright indirect light or full sun

Kalanchoes are succulent plants that are commonly grown as houseplants. Their small blossoms — they come in a variety of colors — grow in inflorescences amid the dark green glossy leaves. These gorgeous flowers require low maintenance and can thrive in bright, indirect light with little water. By growing kalanchoes in your garden, you’ll have blooms for a long period of time each year.

Kalanchoes require about 12-14 hours of total darkness every night for 6-8 weeks in order to rebloom. We recommend you put them in a place where there’s no sun at all, like a closet. Kalanchoes flowers can be grown outside, providing that the temperature doesn’t get close to freezing. Then, they will behave as perennials, returning year after year.
