8 Genius Uses for Eggshells in Your Home and Garden

If you’re interested in pursuing a plastic-free life and garden, discovering a sustainable solution for starting seeds isn’t always easy. If we look back in time, our ancestors reused what they had available in their homes. This includes things like yogurt containers.

But there comes the point when even those plastic pots will break down and must be thrown away or recycled.

Of course, newspaper pots, peat pots, gourd shells, and wooden flats are all fine examples of eco-friendly planting options. But eggshells come out as the winner of them all. They’re easy to work with too.

Simply fill a shell halfway with soil, carefully place your seeds inside, and just wait for them to grow. Pro Tip: To keep your eggshells from rolling around, put them back in the eggshell carton.

When the plants have grown big enough, you can transplant the entire pot into your garden, where the shell will break down eventually, adding calcium to the earth around it.
