#1 Solarizing

Your mind may be going to solar panels or something of the sort, but there is actually a technique to get rid of weeds as well with the same name! And it is quite easy to do, especially if you have time on your hands. All you need to do is wait for summer to roll around and make use of the sunshine to do all the work for you.

You will also need to place a thin piece of plastic over the area you need to get rid of any weeds. The sun will go through the plastic and heat up the ground underneath, effectively killing any seeds, roots, and plants underneath.

While it doesn’t work for spot weeding, if you have a bigger spot you want to work with come autumn, this is the best way to do it without any headaches. Just keep in mind that the heat will also be killing beneficial organisms, so you may need to do a little more to make the soil fertile.
