9. Gardenia

Gardenias are fragrant flowering plants you commonly find in flower gardens, but they also do well indoors. Their flowers emit a fresh smell that induces sleep and reduces stress. One study found that gardenia flowers are excellent natural substitutes for sleeping pills like Valium.

Another study discovered that if you have gardenia flowers in your bedroom, you are more likely to have a restful sleep and are less likely to wake up in the middle of the night. Instead of reaching for sleeping pills when insomnia strikes, try getting yourself a gardenia (or some gardenia flowers). Keep it in your bedroom for the best results.
