Landscapes need something that is going to tie everything in well, and generally speaking, you need to have something like this so that your design looks cohesive instead of looking like you just divided the place into a few squares, each with its own different goal. Making certain spaces have a definite goal is a good thing since it shows that you have planned what you want to do, but it will also make your yard look squared off and not cohesive.

It’s a great idea to have a central element that will tie everything together, and the best way to do that is to make it a place where people can gather together and sit together. You can easily make a firepit or install a fireplace there if that is what you want, but it can also be a dining spot, a pool, or a covered structure with a destination of your choosing. There are a lot of options; you just need to keep an open mind!
