#3 Mulching

If you want to effectively smother weeds, then you should try out mulching. Mulch is made out of biodegradable products that cover plants and stop their growth. If you think about it, anything can end up being mulch, including newspaper and cardboard. You can buy it from most hardware or garden stores, or even online.

The way it works is simple: you cover the place you want to be weed-free with a 2 to 4-inch layer of mulch and leave it to work its magic. It will give you incredible weed control and also leave your soil more fertile than before. Just make sure you are using organic mulch and one that doesn’t have a lot of wood in it, as it can rob your plants of the nutrients they need and lead to decay!
