7. Trumpet Creeper

Also called hummingbird vine or trumpet vine, the trumpet creeper can quickly take over a small area and will climb on many surfaces, including fences, trees, and wooden arbors. It has dense foliage that can create a garden oasis, but it’s its long, tubular flowers that truly catch the eye and attract the hummingbirds.

These nectar-rich plants thrive best in full sun or partial shade, but you may want to beware of their aggressive growth and invasive properties. Trumpet creeper can grow and extend as much as 40 feet when mature and is a vine that should be grown with caution.

Frequent pruning is required to keep it from escaping into surrounding areas and overwhelming your garden. If given a favorable garden location, this plant can live for many decades.
