These 9 Appliances Are Quite Expensive to Replace!

Appliances are some of the most inventive and time-saving additions you could think of for your home, especially when it comes to cooling and heating food, washing dishes and clothes, drying the clothes, heating and cooling the home, and many other things.

We rely on them for everything. That’s why when one important appliance in the home fails, the first thing we think of is to call a maintenance company.

But depending on how broken it is, it could be more beneficial to invest in a replacement appliance instead of wasting more money on another expensive part of the older one.

Before you decide to replace any appliance, you must verify the condition of the broken part and check the cost of it, whether on the manufacturer’s website or an aftermarket parts dealer.

This way, you will get an idea of how much capital you might need to fix the appliance. Also, bear in mind that expensive brands might sell those parts for more. If you are unlucky enough to have any of these expensive appliance parts, then you might want to reconsider an upgrade!

Smart refrigerator control board: $500

A smart refrigerator is a wonderful addition to your kitchen, mainly because it performs all the basic functions of a standard fridge. More than that, it can also include a digital touch screen to access built-in apps and communicate with smart home systems.

The control board collects relevant information from multiple sensors in different parts of the fridge, so it can set the right temperature and runtimes for the appliance.

In fact, the control board is basically the brain of the refrigerator, so it shouldn’t come as a shock that a replacement control board is quite expensive.

On average, a Whirlpool refrigerator main control board costs between $250 and $500. If you also have a smart fridge by a higher-end brand, this part will definitely cost you more.

Grill pellet hopper: $250

Grill parts are quite affordable to replace, so it’s highly advised to replace those burners and grates and even catch the basins when needed. But the price usually shoots up dramatically when the broken part is the automatic pellet hopper.

You should expect to pay around $250 for a replacement automatic pellet hopper, which is the part of the grill where the pellets are loaded.

An electric auger moves the pellets horizontally to the firepot, where they’re burned to produce more heat for grilling. The complex mechanism and electric motor are the reasons why the automatic pellet hopper is so expensive.

Air conditioner compressor: $2,000

Every air conditioner has a compressor, so it goes without saying that it is an integral part that’s responsible for moving the refrigerant between the evaporator and condenser coils.

It acts like the heart of the air conditioner, so the compressor is the one that pumps refrigerant through the system. Replacing the key part usually costs between $1,500 and $2,000, but the average cost to fully replace an air conditioner is around $5,500.

It also depends on the age of the air conditioner, but the best choice in this case is to upgrade the system instead of dealing with other ongoing issues and expensive parts.

Smart microwave door: $500

Compared to other parts like a control board, motor, or even an electronic display, the microwave door doesn’t really seem like it would cost too much, right?

However, the door of any microwave is generally the most expensive part to replace, as it ranges from $200 to $500. It can also come at a higher price for small, foreign appliance manufacturers because of all the import and sourcing costs.

But this repair is somehow easy for those of you who are experienced DIYers, so you might be able to save on labor costs by doing it yourself. If you’re looking for the ultimate upgrade on your microwave, then you might be ready for this absolutely INSANE microwave drawer!

Clothes dryer motor: $450

There are a couple of things that are more frustrating than putting your wet clothes in the dryer and finding them just as wet as before. That usually happens because the motor on the dryer is worn out or has started failing.

In this case, the expected cost to replace a dryer motor is between $350 and $400 for an electric dryer and $400 and $450 for a gas dryer. The motor on a dryer is also responsible for generating the force needed to rotate the dryer drum or run the blower. Without this much-needed part, the dryer is basically useless.

Furnace heat exchanger: $1,000

The heat exchanger is completely made up of thin metal sheets and tubes that separate the combustion process within the furnace from the blower and vents.

It also transfers the heat from the combustion system through the thin metal and right into the ventilation system, warming the air right before it is blown through the ducts to other parts of your home.

Well, if the heat exchange fails, you are left with only a couple of choices. You can either replace the entire thing or replace only the heat exchanger for $1,000 or $2,000.

As the prices can go over $2,000, this needed repair may be everything you need to upgrade the entire system.

Washing machine agitator: $375

The spindle that sticks upright in the center of a top-load washing machine is mainly known as the agitator. It is also designed with fins and vanes that twist and turn but also agitate during any washing cycle.

This way, the laundry keeps on moving instead of clumping and settling in only one place. If the agitator breaks on your washing machine, then the price to repair it might range between $300 and $375, depending on the prototype.

You should take into consideration the age of the machine and, if it ever needed any kind of repair in the past. This way, you will make the right decision between deciding to fix the agitator and replacing the entire washer.

Oven door: $600

Standalone and built-in ovens are essential appliances in the kitchen, especially when it comes to preparing a wide range of meals for the family or if they’re typically accessed with a single, insulated door that folds down or even opens on the side (it all depends on the product design).

The heavy door is designed to keep the heat trapped inside the oven but also provide users with a viewing window that will rapidly check on their food without opening the door.

But if the window cracks or the door is broken, it won’t function as it’s supposed to. Ultimately, it could cause a fire if you try to use it before having the door replaced, which would cost around $600.

Dishwasher motor: $600

Most people don’t even think about the motor of a dishwasher, but this highly essential part is mainly responsible for powering the pump, which also forces the water right into the spray arms and out in powerful streams that clean the dishes.

Without this much-needed motor, the dishwasher is only useful for storing extra dishes. This motor pump assembly is mainly located on the bottom of the dishwasher and mounted beneath the basin in the middle of the appliance.

As the average cost of a new dishwasher is around $700, replacing the motor could cost somewhere between $400 and $600. With such close numbers, it’s much better to replace the entire thing instead of the motor.
